Liverpool Secure Premier League Summit After Saints Win

Merseyside giants Liverpool have gone back to the top of the Premier League table after they came from a goal down to beat Southampton 3-1 in their Premier League clash on Friday night.

Liverpool had relinquished top spot to rivals Manchester City earlier this week after the Citizens beat Welsh side Cardiff City 2-0 at home courtesy goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane.

The Reds knew that a win over Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium will take them back to the Premier League summit and that was what they got though they had to work hard for the victory over the Saints.

Southampton stunned the Reds by taking the lead through Shane Long as early as the ninth minute.

Former West Brom striker Long had a good opportunity to score a second goal for the hosts but he was not able to punish Liverpool who equalised through Naby Keita in the 39th minute.

It was the Guinean international player’s first goal in a Liverpool since his transfer from German club RB Leipzig last summer.

Liverpool went on to score two goals in the final ten minutes of the game through Mohamed Salah and substitute Jordan Henderson to record a big win.

The victory takes Liverpool two points clear of rivals Manchester City who have played a game less.
