Ex-Chelsea Striker Facing La Liga Ban

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa could be out for the rest of the season with the Spaniard facing a ban in the Spanish La Liga after his red card against Barcelona at the weekend.

Brazilian-born Spanish striker Diego Costa was sent off against title rivals Barcelona at the weekend after 28 minutes and his dismissal was crucial as the Catalans move a step closer to retaining their league title with a 2-0 win.

Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi scored within a minute in the closing stages of the game to give Barcelona the three points at stake.

The win took Barcelona eleven points clear off Atletico Madrid in the race for the league title with seven games left to play.

Diego Costa was reportedly sent off in the first half of the game after his foul-mouthed rant towards the centre referee Jesus Gil Manzano.

The former Chelsea player was furious after he was not given a decision by the referee.

If he’s found guilty of using foul language against the centre referee, Diego Costa will almost likely be banned for eight games.

An eight-game ban means that Diego Costa won’t play again this season with seven Spanish La Liga matches left to play for his Atletico Madrid side this season.
