Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has hit out at his club manager Arsene Wenger for blocking his transfer to English Premier League (EPL) rivals Manchester United at the start of the year.
Debuchy was reportedly close to joining Manchester United then under Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal during the last January transfer window before the Wenger intervened and blocked his move to Old Trafford to the dismay of the 31-year old, who later moved to French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux until the end of last season.
The former Lille Metropole and Bordeaux right back made this known in a chat with popular French news outlet L’Equipe. He said: “I wasn’t playing a lot, it was United, there’s nothing else to say. For me, it was almost unexpected, but the coach said no.”
“It’s something I did not appreciate.
“He wasn’t using me, so I didn’t see his interest in doing that.” he further added.
Debuchy, who was a £10m signing from North East club Newcastle United in the summer of 2014 has since lost his place to Spanish right back Hector Bellerin in his first season at the club, It has been revealed that he is looking to seal a move away from Arsenal having played just 16 minutes this season in all competitions.
