Arsenal and Tottenham again dragged into transfer tussle for star midfielder

A few weeks ago, North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham were dragged into transfer tussle to sign Andre Gomes.

The Portuguese has had a poor first season at Spanish giant Barcelona, and his value at the moment is relatively low. Notwithstanding, the Catalan press reports there’s widespread interest in signing Gomes, and the two London clubs were added to the list.

Mundo Deportivo reported weeks back that the two prime suitors are Juventus and Manchester United, but they then include: ‘The other could be Arsenal or Tottenham.’

On Monday the same publication looks at the tussle again, suggesting that the Portuguese could be used as bait to sign PSG’s Marco Verratti. Paris Saint German would presumably know Gomes has been poor, but that doesn’t stop Mundo Deportivo, who again use London clubs Tottenham and Arsenal to suggest otherwise.

According to reports, Barcelona have already rejected one bid of €35m, which was perhaps a poor decision.

The situation does not look to have anything to do with either Spurs or Arsenal, with Mundo Deportivo dragging them in to help up the scenario, and the pretence that the Barcelona flop is much needed around Europe’s top clubs.

There should be only one formula for the Catalan to buy Verratti from PSG, and that involves offering €100m+, nothing else really cuts it.
