West Ham United are said to be planning a raid on London rivals Chelsea for one of their players ahead of the winter transfer market scheduled to begin as from the start of next month.
Popular English media portal Daily Mail claim that the Hammers want to boost their midfield options with the signing of the England international midfielder.
Danny Drinkwater is surplus to requirements at Chelsea under new manager Maurizio Sarri and the Blues are ready to cut their losses on the player.
The 28-year-old was a key player of the Leicester City side that surprised the entire sporting world by winning the 2015/16 Premier League title ahead of more illustrious opponents like Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Chelsea spent £35m to secure his transfer on the deadline day of last summer’s transfer window but he has made just 12 appearances for the Blues in the Premier League.
Apart from West Ham United, fellow London club Fulham are also keen on a transfer for the former Manchester United player.
Claudio Ranieri was the Foxes manager when they won the Premier League title as mentioned above and Danny Drinkwater has a good relationship with him.
It could play a part in the two-way battle to sign him in a cut-price deal from Chelsea.
