Napoli forward Dries Mertens has revealed his desire to reunite with new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri at the end of his contract with the Italian Serie A giants.

Mertens is contracted to Napoli until the end of the 2019/20 season.

He spoke in glowing terms about Italian tactician Sarri in a chat with popular English media outlet The Times.

Dries Mertens went on to say that the idea of reuniting with the new Blues’ boss at the end of his Napoli contract is not a bad idea.

Maurizio Sarri became the Chelsea manager in the summer after putting pen to paper on a three-year contract.

The 59-year-old replaced compatriot Antonio Conte who lost his job after an underwhelming season which saw the Blues finish in a disappointing fifth place at the end of the Premier League campaign.

Maurizio Sarri has lifted the largely dull Chelsea spirits this season with the introduction of his possession-based style known as ‘Sarriball’ but he has had to suffer for a lack of consistent goalscoring strikers in the team.

Dries Mertens could be a very good option for Sarri and Chelsea.

The Belgian star has already scored 10 goals in addition to four assists for Napoli in all competitions this season.
