Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri and his assistant Gianfranco Zola have told the club to sign Italian international midfielder Nicolo Barella ahead of the upcoming transfer market scheduled to start as from the 1st of January.
This is according to various media reports emanating from Italy.
Nicolo Barella broke into the first team of Italian Serie A side Cagliari in the last campaign and he has grown to become a key player for them since he rose to prominence with the club.
According to the publication from L’Uniuone Sarda via the Metro, the aforementioned Chelsea managers want the West London giants to sign the 21-year-old.
They could spend up to £40.7m (€45m) to sign him.
Nicolo Barella is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Italian top flight and he has drawn the praise of Italian football legend Andrea Pirlo.
According to him, Nicolo Barella is one of the best players in Italy.
His impressive showings for Cagliari since the start of last season prompted interests from several European clubs including Chelsea.
Others include Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Earlier reports claimed that Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid were unsuccessful in their quest to sign Barella this summer despite submitting a bid of around €35m for him.
