Arsenal seems to be edging local rivals Tottenham Hotspurs in the transfer tussle for Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema next summer transfer window.
The France international striker may be out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Don Balon claiming the Spanish giant were looking to sell him to North London giant Arsenal for about £53million.
Diario Gol now states the striker may also have been tabled a transfer offer to join Tottenham Hotspurs as a makeweight in the England striker Harry Kane switch, but that the 29-year-old forward does not want to join Tottenham.
According to Diario Gol, Benzema does not see Spurs as a big club for him to join at the moment, as they hardly compete for a UEFA Champions League spot each year talkless of major honours.
The former Olympique Lyon striker is used to winning big European titles, having done so on three occasions in the last four campaigns with Real Madrid.
Karim Benzema has not looked at his best form this term but clearly believes he could do better than a transfer to Spurs.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have only managed to win the English FA Cup in recent years, with no Premier League title since 2004, and with no UEFA Champions League crown in their whole history, despite a number of attempts in the continental competition.
