North London side Arsenal are believed to be closing in on versatile Botafogo midfielder Matheus Fernandes according to reports from Calciomercato.com.
The report says Arsenal are among the numbers of clubs interested in signing the Brazilian and they have gone ahead by sending delegations to keep tabs on him as he continues to progress and impress in his country home.
Matheus Fernandes has been operating in a central midfield and he is known for his astute techniques and his dribble skills which his suitors cannot overlook.
However, Spanish outlet Villarreal, Italian side Genoa are both reported to have entered the race for the player as they have also sent in scouts to monitor his progress of the player.
Matheus Fernandes is also reported to be interested in a move to the North London side as he wishes to experience the stories he has had of the English Premier League.
Arsenal are set to lose Aaron Ramsey at the end of this season as he has been denied a new contract by the club which makes Matheus Fernandes an important deal for the club.
The Gunners have been warned that the Wales international be replaced or not allowed to leave the club anytime soon.
