Arsenal legend Paul Merson is backing Chelsea star Eden Hazard to join La Liga giant Real Madrid from the West London club in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea suffer major setback
The reigning Premier League champions were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday after a 2-1 defeat to their City rivals Arsenal in the return leg.
The Blues have only managed a win in their last six matches in all competitions before today, to heap more pressure on Italian coach Antonio Conte despite being just 18 months into his Blues reign.
Conte’s men are 15 points behind current league leaders Manchester City in the Premier League title race, while the Blues will take on La Liga giants FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League last 16.
Negotiations ongoing
The Belgium international forward is reported to be in talks with the Blues about a fresh deal, although reports have claimed that La Liga champions Real Madrid could raid Conte’s team for the Belgian attacker.
Hazard, 27, has constantly been linked with a transfer to the Spanish giants but the former Lille attacker has opted to stay back at Stamford Bridge.
However, with the title holders drifting further off the top of the Premier League table, ex-Arsenal midfielder Merson feels this summer transfer window could eventually spell the end of the attacker’s Stamford Bridge playing career.
