Deal Close! Man United asked to “cough out” £55m to land top player

According to British media reports, North London giants Tottenham Hotspur have slapped a £55million valuation on Manchester United transfer target Toby Alderweireld.

The London Evening Standard is claiming that the Red Devils are confident of bringing in the Belgium international defender in the summer window.

The same report states that Spurs want to secure a premium fee for the 29-year-old and the Belgian have slapped a £55million price tag on the defender’s head.

As per the same report, Tottenham’s demands have stalled negotiations between the two English Premier League teams over Alderweireld’s proposed offload.

Alderweireld’s present deal will run out at the end of next term but Tottenham do have the option to elongate the Belgium international defender’s contract by one year.

However, if the North London club do decide to activate the clause in the player’s deal then the 29-year-old defender would be available for a reduced £25million deal in the next summer transfer window in 2019.

Limited playing time

He has only played two matches this year after manager Mauricio Pochettino decided to stick with summer recruit Davison Sanchez to pair Jan Vertonghen at the back.

Tottenham brought in the Belgian central defender in a £12.5million deal from Spanish La Liga club Atletico Madrid back in 2015 summer window after the player impressed on a loan spell at Premier League side Southampton
