Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has said that new Arsenal recruit Stephan Lichtsteiner is already past his best.

Arsenal brought in experienced Switzerland international defender in a free transfer from Italian Serie A Champions Juventus earlier in the week.

The 34-year-old sealed a switch to the Premier League side after his deal expired at the Italian side following seven campaigns in Turin.

Stephen Lichtsteiner brings in a wealth of experience with him after winning the Italian Serie A titles on seven occasions during a decorated playing spell in Turin.

The Switzerland skipper has also played for Lille, Grasshopper, and Serie A side Lazio before moving to his fifth team, Arsenal.

The experienced defender will compete with Spaniard Hector Bellerin for the right-back position under new manager Unai Emery.

The former Liverpool defender isn’t impressed with the Gunners stance to land the veteran defender in the present transfer window.

Asked if he was impressed with the recruitment, he told ESPN FC he is absolutely not impressed.

Arsenal lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final in February at Wembley Stadium.
