Reports claim that Liverpool star attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho is interested in making a move to Spanish giants Barcelona. The Brazilian so far this season has been in superb form and has already scored four goals and notch up four assists in the premier league.
According to the Sun, Spanish newspaper Sport states that Liverpool is concerned about losing their star player to the Spanish champions. It is also reported that Coutinho was so interested in playing for Barcelona that he tried to force a move to the Nou Camp during last summer’s transfer window.
It has been revealed that his agents actually approached Barcelona during the summer in a bid to strike a deal but the club was not keen on having the player join them. Barcelona declined the offer because they believed they were well covered in the forward position and believed they could do without the services of Coutinho. Also manager Luis Enrinque was interested in making other positions in the team stronger and felt having Coutinho was not a priority.
Coutinho recently signed a new deal with Liverpool that will see him remain at the club till 2020 but despite still having some years to go on his contract, Liverpool have reportedly offered him a new deal as they seek to fend off interest from other clubs.
If Barcelona shows no interest in Coutinho, Liverpool can still not heave a sigh of relief as other top clubs in Europe such Paris Saint- Germain and Real Madrid are reported to be interested in the talented midfielder’s services.
Just in case Liverpool loses their star man, they have been linked to a possible replacement in the form of Napoli’s forward Lorenzo Insigne.
