Alexis Sanchez was more or less a forlorn figure when Manchester United lost to Tottenham Hotspurs at Wembley in January, and he suffered the same fate against Newcastle United and La Liga side Sevilla on Wednesday.
Below performance
Having let in after only 11 seconds against Spurs, Manchester United never looked like coming back into the match despite having their new signing playing up front which also has Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku.
In fact, when the match ended, one look at the Chilean’s statistics showed just how ineffectual the former Arsenal star had been for his new side. The South American failed to register a shot on target during the entire 90 minutes, he couldn’t even create an opportunity for his colleagues and he had only two touches in the Tottenham box.
Wrong buy?
Things were worse against Newcastle as the forward was unable to take advantage of an empty net just before the host took the lead.
Any Arsenal supporter watching either match would have seen very familiar feat from Alexis Sanchez and the two performances should serve as a warning to the Red Devils in terms of what to expect from the 29-year-old attacker.
On his day the Chilean is a world-class footballer, undoubtedly, we saw that during his playing time at the Emirates Stadium. But we’ve not seen that at all this season fo his new club.
