Arsenal battle for the transfer of Steven N’Zonzi

According to reports, Arsenal are prepared to swoop for Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi in the winter transfer window and could pay his £35million buyout clause.

The France international midfielder hasn’t featured as much for the Spanish side recently and is reported to have fallen out of favour with club tactician Eduardo Berizzo.

As per the Sun, this could convince the Gunners into going for N’Zonzi once again after previously eyeing him in the summer, though Merseysider’s Everton are now also after the attacker.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could do with an attacker like N’Zonzi’s quality in the midfield, with the likes of Xhaka and Coquelin not living up to expectation to be first choice in that role for a top side.

Steven N’Zonzi has played on English soil before with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, but has improved greatly at Sevilla and was seen as one of Europe’s best defensive midfielders last campaign. N’Zonzi, 28, would surely be a good buy at £35million if the Sun’s claims on his release clause are right, so fund shouldn’t be a problem even for the popularly frugal Wenger.

Recently, Daily Mirror suggests the Gunners are looking at Schalke’s Leon Goretzka, so a new player in the midfield does look to be on Arsene Wenger’s wishlist at the moment.
