United claim player going nowhere

Antonio Valencia

Manchester United have reacted to speculations that right full-back Antonio Valencia would be leaving the club in this winter transfer window.

The Red Devils in their reaction stated that the star layer will not be leaving the club in this January window as claimed, according to The Times but opened up on the possibility of having left in the coming winter transfer window.

Antonio Valencia has got a contract running at the Old Trafford until the end of the season, in addition to their option to extend it for another year which is looking unlikely after they are reported to have had an agreement with the 33-year-old to leave as a free player.

With the new Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United are willing to keep their team together so as to be able to continue the press for a Champions League qualification with a top four finish.

Having won six of their last six games under the new manager, the Red Devils have now been able to push to the sixth position and now have same points with fifth place, Arsenal.

However, United are expected to have more additions to their squad rather than allow departures if they must achieve the target given to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he took over from Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho.
