Italian football legend Franco Baresi has praised the impact of Virgil Van Dijk at Liverpool since his move to the Reds in January 2018.
Baresi spoke about the Dutch international centre back in a chat with media outlet AFP.
The ex-Italian international player knows a lot about the art of defending and he has been impressed with both Virgil Van Dijk and young Ajax Amsterdam star Matthijs De Ligt.
Ironically, both Van Dijk and De Ligt have formed a potent centre back partnership for the Dutch national team.
Both players were instrumental to the Netherlands’ run to semifinals in the UEFA Nations League.
The Netherlands will face the Three Lions of England in June for the right to qualify for the final of the competition.
Virgil Van Dijk is widely regarded as one of the best defenders on the European football scene.
The 27-year-old became the most expensive defender in the history of world football after the Reds paid £75m to secure his transfer from fellow Premier League club Southampton in January 2018.
His impact on the Liverpool defence has been remarkable.
The Reds have the best defence in the Premier League after conceding just 18 goals in 31 games since the start of the season.
