French Ligue 1 giants Marseille are keen on a move for Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno ahead of the upcoming transfer window scheduled to begin as from the 1st of January.

According to the publication from French media portal L’Equipe, the Spanish international left-back has been added to the list of transfer targets for Europa League campaigners Marseille.

Senior Marseille officials want to sign a backup to first choice left-back Jordan Amavi and they have identified Alberto Moreno as the man to do the job.

The 26-year-old has been on the fringes of the Liverpool team for the majority of the last one year following the emergence of Scottish international captain Andy Robertson as the first-choice left-back for the Reds.

Moreno had earlier joined Liverpool from Spanish side Sevilla in the summer of 2014 for a fee of around £12m shortly after he helped the team win the first of three successive Europa League titles between 2014 and 2016.

He was the first choice in his position at Liverpool until the last two seasons.

Apart from Marseille, the Spaniard has also been linked with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona and fellow Premier League side Arsenal though it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will sell to one of their direct rivals.
