Antonio Conte’s Team Selection Against Burnley Came Under Fire From Chelsea Fans
Chelsea, following their 1-1 draw with Burnley, now lead at the top of the Premier League table with 10 points.
The blues were handed a massive boost before they had even played after watching Tottenham lost 2-0 at Liverpool. But the London club were not able to capitalise as they would have liked.
Chelsea broke the deadlock just seven minutes into the game – thanks to a well-taken goal from Pedro. But Robbie Brady helped Burnley equalised with a superb free-kick that leveled things up.
And even though Turf Moor is not an easy place to beat those that owns the ground, Chelsea being almost unstoppable this season so far, as the scoreline would suggest, just weren’t at their best.
But from another perspective, we don’t think there is any other thing that can be done by Conte’s men differently. Center back David Luiz, despite playing with an injury, was still impressive. Even N’Golo Kante was his typically unstoppable self.
How About The Spanish Striker?
But perhaps, Chelsea fans should begin getting worried about their star striker Diego Costa. Maybe there should be a little concern over him as he is yet to find the back of the net again in his last three games.
The Spanish international hasn’t had a shot on target for over 190 minutes, and man-of-the-match Michael Keane ensured that wasn’t about to change against Burnley.
But Costa Escaped! Matic Could Not!
Perhaps because he is their top goalscorer, or maybe it is because they are happy to have him back after his encounter with Conte back in January – Costa escaped the wrath of Chelsea fans on social media!
Unfortunately, Nemanja Matic didn’t escape as he was being targeted.
Matic is sure in a difficult position at the club as he is vying for the same spot as Cesc Fabregas. This means the Serbia international is always going to be under heavy scrutiny.
He Actually Made A Big Mistake
Considering that the 28-year-old is also playing alongside Kante, it would be obviously difficult for him to shine at the expense of his superb midfield partner.
Even though some Chelsea fans were simply asking for just a few decent tackles and maybe one or two key passes going forward – since they couldn’t get them, they vented their frustration and came hard on him.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte may well come under pressure to pick Fabregas next week, but fortunately for Matic, even not gaining all three points at Burnley isn’t likely to have damaged Chelsea’s title chances at all.
