Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has reportedly turned down the opportunity to become the next manager of Premier League giants Arsenal.
Simeone considered for Arsenal job
As per The Mirror, the Gunners sounded Diego Simeone out, before the manager made known his intentions to remain with La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
Arsene Wenger made it public last week Friday that he will be leaving the Emirates Stadium at when the current season end, bringing to an end his 22nd-year spell with Arsenal.
The North London club are now in the market for a successor and were considering Diego Simeone for the managerial role.
Quality Argentine coach
The Argentine tactician has been mentioned for the great job he has done with his current side, which includes winning a Spanish La Liga title, finishing above heavyweights like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Spaniard Luis Enrique is believed to be the Gunners’ top target at this moment. He has been without a job since leaving FC Barcelona last season.
Ex player considered
Former Arsenal star Mikel Arteta, currently a member of Manchester City’s technical crew, has also been strongly linked to the vacant job.
The former Everton midfielder has never managed a senior team.
The Gunners are currently preparing to face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Europa League semi-final first Leg clash on Thursday night.
