Why Mourinho is the target for Ed Woodward’s director of football search

It has been reported that Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has made it clear, his wish to recruit a director of football for the club, to take charge of transfer activities.

Pundits have however opined that Coach Jose Mourinho is the target of the welcomed development at the Old Trafford.

Ed Woodward’s decision is not far-fetched from the face-off between him and Mourinho over the transfer dealings of the club in the summer.

Mourinho is reported to be fuming at their failure to bring in more fresh faces, especially defenders and had predicted the ills the club is currently experiencing.

The Manchester United manager wanted five fresh faces but ended up with just three – Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.

The face-off between the management boss and technical boss has brought instability to the club, a situation Ed Woodward is looking at resolving.

However, the essence of the expected addition is to bring the Portuguese under control.

Since the advertisement, several names have been mentioned with former goalkeeper. Edwin van der Sar, mentioned as a possible recruit.

Monchi who has worked wonders at Roma, bringing in a massive 13 fresh faces during a productive summer is also reported to be a target if Edwin van der Sar, refuses to make a return to his old.
