Mateo Kovacic

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic won’t stay at the club beyond this summer according to the widespread reports coming out of the British media.

Mateo Kovacic is on a season-long loan deal at Chelsea from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid having joined them last summer.

According to Sky Sports, Kovacic will return to Real Madrid this summer after the expiration of his loan contract at Chelsea.

The Croatian World Cup star has made 47 appearances for Chelsea this season including 31 games in the Premier League.

Mateo Kovacic has been a constant fixture in the Chelsea starting XI and he has contributed his own quota to a Blues side that recently qualified for the Europa League final.

The Croatian midfielder also provided two assists for Chelsea in the league as they secured Champions League football for next season with a game left to play.

The Premier League game at Leicester City could be his last match in the colours of Chelsea before he returns to Spain.

Kovacic, 25, became a Chelsea player at the start of the season as part of the transfer that took Belgian international shot stopper Thibaut Courtois from the club to Real Madrid.

Courtois had one year left on his Chelsea contract and the Blues had no choice but to sell him to Real Madrid for £35m last summer.
