Man United summer signing Romelu Lukaku has scored his sixth Premier League goal of the season during his side’s recent win over Southampton, and his manager Jose Mourinho has highlighted his importance after helping his new side get a 1-0 win over the Saints on Saturday.
The former Everton striker headed Ashley Young’s cross from the left side which was saved by the opponent’s goalkeeper, before moving quickly for the rebound that crept into the net.
The Belgium international, alongside Ander Herrera, missed some other chances to put the game beyond the home team’s reach in the second half, forcing the visitors to defend their sole goal.
And speaking to Sky Sports after securing all three points at St Mary’s, Jose praised his men for holding out for the victory on Saturday, but admitted it was a hard match that made him happy.
And speaking about Lukaku, the Portuguese manager hailed the Belgian as an important player in his team, and that the player’s work is so important for his side.
‘He scored his goal and worked hard like everybody else.’ Mourinho said.
Man United will be making the trip to Russia for their next Champions League game at Moscow this midweek. They won their first group stage game against FC Basel at Old Trafford few weeks back.
