Football expert Paul Merson has urged Arsenal to forget about qualification to next year’s Champions League after claiming that they will not finish this season in the top four.
Giving reasons for his stand, he noted that the Arsenal defence remain porous and not different from what was obtainable under former manager Arsene Wenger.
The North London side are currently playing in the Europa League for the second consecutive year after the failure of the former French boss to end the seasons in the top four.
The coming of new manager Unai Emery is most important to return the club back to the Champions League in addition to winning titles and competing favourably against big clubs.
The Arsenal legend stated that too much work is needed to be done in the current Emirates Stadium team for the Spanish manager to be able to correct the wrong, especially in the defence.
He noted that the North London team under Wenger were irresistible and that is what seems to play out in the current team, noting that Arsenal will be able to stand big teams only if they gather more strength at the back and can be able to hold pressure and help win games.
