It seems manager Jose Mourinho is pessimistic about his chances of signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld this summer.
The Belgium international has been heavily linked with a move away from London in recent times after he emerged as a target for the Old Trafford club.
Mourinho looks to add more strength to his defense department ahead of next season, and he has been monitoring the Belgian in recent weeks.
Although there has been no release of an official discussion between United and Tottenham, it was recently speculated that Tottenham’s asking price for the player is too high.
Right now, it seems Jose has dropped some hints that he won’t sign a new defender before the close of the summer transfer window.
The former Chelsea boss was recently asked about his likely backside next term, and he said the likes of Anthony Valencia, Eric Smalling, Luke Shaw and Smalling, are ‘probably the ones’ to take care of his backside.
The fans still expect Mourinho to splash more cash on some new players as the Portuguese prepares for his third season at the Theater of Dreams.
Manchester United will be looking to win the premier league title next term after they ended last season without a single trophy.
So far this summer, Mourinho only signed the trio of Fabinho (from Monaco), Dalot (from FC Porto) and Lee Grant (from Stoke City)
