Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was one of Manchester United’s transfer targets during the January transfer market but Jose Mourinho failed in his move for the player as Lazio refused to sell one of their best players before the end of the winter window.
Having failed to sign the 23-year-old midfielder last winter, José Mourinho is set to reignite his interest in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as he has pleaded with the club to agree on a £150m contract deal with their Serie A counterparts so as to lure the player to Old Trafford ahead of next season according to Corriere Dello Sport.
The Serbia international recently renewed his contract which will keep him at the Stadio Olimpico till 2021 but he could be heading out of the Serie A team by the end of the season due to the agreement in his latest contract.
While reacting to the rumours linking the player away from Lazio, Claudio Lotito – Lazio President- revealed his plans to keep the player for more seasons but he believes the club won’t receive any fee short of £150m should he decide to move to other clubs this summer.
The former Genk player has featured in over 100 games in all competitions for the Banco celestial since he joined the team in 2015. He has been directly involved in 11 goals so far this season.
With Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba all set to leave Old Trafford this summer, it is certain Mourinho will add more players to the team at the centre of the pitch and Milinkovic-Savic might just be the next player to join the Red Devils.
