Man United table £40m bid for target as Mourinho is eager to sign one more player

Manchester United have had a £40 million bid rejected by Tottenham Hotspur for Eric Dier, according to reports.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been closely monitored by United with reports that Jose Mourinho sees him as an ideal replacement for Michael Carrick who is nearing retirement.

It is also understood that Dier is also keen at the possibility of joining his boyhood club, United but Spurs are standing in the way of the transfer, with reports that club chairman Daniel Levy will not allow any of their first team stars leave after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50 million.

Despite Tottenham’s stance, Manchester United are believed to be going forward with a move for Dier, with reports in Sky Sports that the Red Devils have had a bid of £40 million for the midfielder.

But the North London outfit are keen about holding on Eric Dier and will request for a bigger sum from United as they are in a strong position to determine the possible outcome of the deal after tieing the midfielder to a new deal last September.

Manchester United are also said to be closing in on a loan deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanchez while they might also consider moving for Paris Saint Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.
