Tottenham Hotspur star player Toby Alderweireld has been heavily linked with a move away from the club in recent times after emerging as a target for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
The talented player has been consistently in the news recently due to his links with the Old Trafford club, and the latest being said about him right now is that Spurs will demand around £70M for his signature.
The London club have resigned to losing Toby this summer, but according to the report, they realised they can pick a leaf from Liverpool’s deal with Southampton in January for Virgil Van Dijk.
The Merseysiders paid some whopping £75M to sign the Van Dijk during the past winter transfer window, making the Dutch star the most expensive defender in football history. Right now, it is understood Tottenham are confident they can get that much for Toby’s signature too.
Unfortunately, Alderweireld’s issue at Tottenham has been complicated by the £35M release clause in his current contract – but his current side wants more.
Manchester United have finalised deals for the duo of Fred (from Shakhtar Donetsk) and Diogo Dalot (from FC Porto) in recent days and are likely to focus elsewhere if they fail to agree a deal with Tottenham for Toby.
