Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has revealed he did not sign for Manchester United because they never made an official bid to sign him.
The 24-year-old was a subject of transfer speculation during the last two summer transfer window, following his standout displays for AS Monaco in the 2016/17 season, where he remained one of the few players that remained at the club after their successful run at the French league title.
Manchester United were said to be front-runners in the potential move for Fabinho, with reports that United boss, Jose Mourinho met the player’s agent to discuss the move. But the move did not materialise as his fellow stars moved to other clubs in Europe.
One year later, Fabinho opted to join Liverpool ahead of United despite reports that Mourinho is a keen admirer of the Brazilian’s abilities.
Speaking about his decision to join Liverpool, Fabinho revealed that United never made a formal bid to sign and did not submit an offer to AS Monaco at all.
United boss Jose Mourinho was left angry and frustrated at his side’s failure to sign his desired targets as the summer transfer window closed, which saw another Brazilian midfielder Fred arriving at the Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk.
