Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has revealed that he snubbed a move to Manchester United due to ‘personal reasons’.
The Uruguayan was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford during the last days of the summer transfer window.
United boss Jose Mourinho was keen on adding a central defender to his ranks during the last window, with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Yerry Mina and Harry Maquire all tipped to sign for the Red Devils.
Any of the transfers did not materialise due to their unwillingness to meet the quoted asking prices for the targets.
Just before the end of the summer window, Manchester United made frantic efforts to sign Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid by triggering his release clause of £22.5 million but the player decided against signing for United, sparking reports that he has renewed his deal at Atleti.
Diego Godin has now denied reports of a new deal at Atletico Madrid, revealing that he snubbed United’s approach for ‘personal reasons’.
Prior to his revelation, there were speculations that Manchester United were furious at the player’s agent who made the club believe that they could sign the player whereas their approach just used to get a better contract at Atletico Madrid.
