Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has revealed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could spend up to £60m on a defender if he decides to delve into the transfer window to boost his injury-hit squad.

Maguire made this know in an exclusive interview with the Daily Star.

He said that German tactician Klopp would be backed by the Liverpool board if he decides to sign a player in the current January transfer window.

The football finance expert further pointed out that the wage bill at Liverpool has already been reduced following the departures of Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Clyne.

Former Crystal Palace and Southampton right-back Clyne has joined South Coast club Bournemouth on loan for the remainder of the season, while Solanke made a permanent exit from Liverpool to the same club.

Bournemouth paid £19m to secure the transfer of England international striker Dominic Solanke permanently.
Funds would be made available for Klopp if he wants to strengthen his team with the centre back position the obvious area in need of attention.

Liverpool have suffered lately due to recent injuries suffered by the centre back trio of Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren thus leaving the impressive Virgil Van Dijk as the only fit senior central defender in the Liverpool squad at the moment.
