Jose Mourinho spent huge some of money to strengthen his squad during the past summer transfer window, and the only defender he signed was Swedish international Victor Lindelof from Benfica.
However, Lindelof has not been able to impress for his new side so far this season. Since the beginning of the term, the Sweden defender has mainly warmed the bench in the Premier League, and when given a chance during their last game against Huddersfield, the youngster really messed things up.
And if reports in the media are anything to go by, then it appears Mourinho is trying to bring in another defender to add more strength to his defense department, following links with Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez.
The Express made it known that the Portuguese manager is eager to bring the player to Old Trafford, and that he has a release clause of £60million in his contract at Atletico.
Gimenez is a versatile 22-year-old star who can effectively play as a center back, a full-back and also as a defensive midfielder if the need arises.
This season, the Uruguay international has featured in 5 La Liga games for his side and has scored 1 goal.
The report also added that the Madrid club could conduct the business without needing to activate the player’s release clause, which may really make things easier for Jose Mourinho’s side.
