Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Antonio Conte could walk out on Chelsea.
As reported by the Telegraph, the Sky Sports pundit was of the opinion that he will be surprised if the Italian manager is still the manager at Stamford Bridge in a year’s time.
The former Juventus boss has been growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of transfer activity at Chelsea and the involvement of the club’s management in transfer deals.
So far this summer, as much as nine Chelsea players have departed Stamford Bridge, with the latest being Nemanja Matic sold to Manchester United after being heavily linked with a move to the Old Trafford club for much of this summer.
Another player who is expected to leave any moment from now is Spanish striker Diego Costa. The Italian manager has told the former Atletico Madrid forward at the end of last season that he is not part of his plans at Chelsea for the upcoming campaign, and he is expected to make a return back to his former Spanish club in Madrid.
Despite a very busy campaign ahead, the defending premier league champions have been able to bring in just four players this summer: Antonio Rudiger (from AS Roma), Tiemoue Bakayoko (from Monaco), Alvaro Morata (from Real Madrid), and former Manchester City goalie Willy.
They have also missed out on major deals for the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Danilo and Alex Sandro, and Antonio Conte is understood not to be pleased with such things as this.
Liverpool’s hero Carragher speaking on the new Sky Sports panel show, The Debate said:
“I would be very surprised if sitting here in 12 months time and Conte is still Chelsea manager. I think he is the type of boss who won’t accept the involvement from those above, especially on the back of winning the [premier league] title.”
