It has been revealed that Mikel Arteta masterminded Manchester City’s victory over Arsenal last Sunday.
The Spaniard who was one of the few names tipped to take over from Arsene Wenger, was back at the Emirates to haunt his former employers by plotting their loss.
Pep Guardiola was seen hugging and congratulating Arteta as City grabbed their second goal on Sunday raising eyebrows. Reports in the Telegraph have now claimed that Arteta suggested a tactical tweak by revealing two Arsenal players who were the weak links in the squad.
Arteta, who played for the Gunners, had already reviewed the club’s current crop of players and identified Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan as the key to City’s victory over Arsenal which worked out as planned.
The two attackers did little to win back the ball during the match, exposing their left backs to concede errors that led to the goals.
Unai Emery was also criticised by many for his choice of tactics against Manchester City on Sunday as the Gunners defence were under pressure for the most part of the game as they tried to out from the defence against a high-pressing City side.
There are reports that the Arsenal board, as well as senior players, were more than glad to have Emery as the boss rather than Arteta and the opinion has not changed despite their loss.
