Liverpool midfielder wants to remain at Anfield amid transfer speculations
Emre Can has dropped the biggest hint that he wants to stay at Anfield this summer after labeling next season as a big one for his time at the club.
The Germany international has entered the final season of his existing contract and has been linked with a transfer to Juventus.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is adamant the 23-year-old midfielder will not be leaving the club this summer and Can believes next campaign is a pivotal one for his football career.
“It’s a big season [for me], and I think it’s a big season for the team as well,” he told Liverpool’s official website. “Last season we (the team) did quite well, but we (team) could do better, so we (team) will try to do it better this year (season) and push on.
The fact the Merseysiders have now ended their chase of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita will only enhance Can’s opportunities of establishing himself as a first-team regular under manager Klopp, although he is currently vying with Georginio Wijnaldum for one final place in Liverpool’s midfield three.
Despite only starting 26 Premier League matches last season, only Christian Benteke (81) committed more fouls than Emry Can (70).
