Manchester United manager José Mourinho has taken the blame for his team’s uninspiring display at home to Sevilla in Champions League last-16 second leg fixture on Tuesday.
Having played an away goalless draw against Sevilla last week, it is believed that United will easily see off Sevilla’s challenge at Old Trafford but that didn’t happen as José Mourinho’s men were made to pay for their lackadaisical display as the Spanish side scored two goals in quick succession.
Though the Red Devils scored a goal via Marouane Fellaini, that was just a mere consolation as they crashed out of the competition.
Speaking to reporters in the early hours of today, Mourinho revealed his players were in tears after their surprise defeat to Sevilla due to the pains they felt for crashing out of the competition.
The Portuguese further take the blame as he refuses to point an accusing finger at any player.
The Times also reported that the Portuguese manager joined Sevilla in the team’s dressing room to applaud them for their resilient performance against his team.
According to the Times, Mourinho hopes his players are emotionally fit for the clash against Brighton and Hove Albion in Saturday’s FA Cup fixture.
‘We have a match on Saturday and hopefully the players will be back on the training ground and focused on that important game.’ he said.
Mourinho will hope his team return to their best form as that is their only hope of winning a trophy this current campaign.
