Manchester United have made a shock deadline day offer for Real Madrid youngster, Marco Asensio, according to reports.
United boss Jose Mourinho has made clear his intentions to sign a new player before the end of the transfer window, while stressing that he is contented with his current crop of players and might have to wait till next summer before signing his desired targets.
However, reports in Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim that Manchester United have a €55 million bid for Asensio in a bid to test Real Madrid’s resolve for the forward.
The report also have it that the La Liga giants view the offer as scandalous and will not allow the player move for a fee around that amount.
Asensio, who has been tipped to sign a new deal at Santiago Bernabeu, has a €600 million release clause with speculations that Real Madrid club president Florentino Perez wants to increase his clause to €800 million in the new deal.
Liverpool and Arsenal were said to have tracked the player’s situation earlier this summer, with suggestions of a loan move but Real are said to be keen on keeping Asensio at the Bernabeu following his mind-blowing displays for the Champions League winners since the latter stages of last season.
