New rumours have it that La Liga giants Barcelona have joined the race to sign Benfica pair of Victor Lindelof and Nelson Semedo, therefore dealing a potential blow to Man United.
The duo have been of interest to United for some time, with The Sun claiming that Mourinho opted against signing Lindelof in January, which in turn means he will have to bring out £50m this summer to land the Swedish international.
It was also revealed earlier this month that a deal had been agreed in principle for the £35m transfer of Semedo to United as Mourinho looked to find a long-term solution at right back.
It all however looked positive for Man United fans as they wait to see what happens in the summer transfer market, but a Spanish outlet Marca have reported a piece published in A Bola on Tuesday about Barcelona set to ruin their plans.
Barcelona reportedly watched Semedo in Benfica’s win over Nacional, while it is added that they are keeping tabs on Victor Lindelof too which could spell trouble for the red devils and their hopes of strengthening their backline.
Antonio Valencia is now on the wrong side of 30 and a long-term defensive partner is required for Eric Bailly, so it is obvious as to why Man United would want to bolster their defensive options with Mourinho likely to remove those who don’t fit into his plans this summer.
Barcelona too haven’t adequately replaced Dani Alves, while there is a huge need to bring in young blood to ensure that there is cover in their centre-half department also.
Well, summer would sure be interesting.
