Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has signed a new contract at the club to all but end transfer rumours linking him with a move away from the club ahead of the upcoming transfer window in the New Year.
The 24-year-old has repeatedly been linked with a move to London with clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur but he has now ended those rumours by putting pen to paper on a six-year contract at struggling Newcastle United.
His new deal will see him increase his weekly wages to around £70,000.
Lascelles has been an important member of the Newcastle United squad since he moved to the Northeast of England from English Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.
He signed for Newcastle United in the summer of 2014 alongside Nottingham Forest teammate Karl Darlow before both players were loaned back to the second-tier club for the 2014/15 season.
Newcastle United would be hoping that club skipper Jamal Lascelles can use the news of the contract extension to rally his teammates in the bid to get out of the Premier League relegation zone.18
The Geordies are in the trouble zone after a winless start to the new Premier League season.
Newcastle United have drawn three and lost seven of their ten league games and are currently in 19th spot with three points only.
