In the North London Derby victory over Tottenham Hotspurs last weekend, Germany international playmaker Mesut Ozil showed the level of performance that Arsenal fans have come to cherish in the four-plus years the playmaker has spent at the club.
However, given Ozil’s contract situation at the club, most of those supporters have come to agree with the notion that the German will probably leave Arsenal next summer.
Ozil, 29, has been linked with top European clubs like Premier League giant Manchester United and Serie A heavyweight Inter Milan but as per the Mirror, La Liga giant FC Barcelona are planning a January switch for the attacking midfielder as an alternative to Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.
The Catalan club failed with a couple of bids to sign the Brazil international midfielder during the last summer transfer window and have been asked to look elsewhere, with the Arsenal midfielder emerging on their wishlist.
The publication claims that FC Barcelona thinks that the Gunners will be ready to sell Ozil in the winter to avoid losing the German for free at the end of the season and the La Liga club will table a bid worth £17m to seal the deal.
With the North Londoners still in the thick of the UEFA Champions League qualification race, it’s almost unthinkable to think that they would sell one of their most prized assets.
