Man United SURE of signing 29-year-old star for £40million

According to reports emanating from England, Manchester United are sure of winning the transfer race to land Toby Alderweireld from rivals Tottenham Hotspur this summer transfer window.

The Evening Standard is claiming that United are willing to pay up to £40million to complete the signing of the Belgium international defender as manager Jose Mourinho looks to reinforce his defence.

The same article says that Spurs are preparing to offload Alderweireld after failing to agree to a fresh deal with the 29-year-old defender and they plan to spend the money on Ajax youngster Matthijs de Ligt.

It is also suggested that the likes of Paris-Saint Germain, Chelsea and Barcelona are all keen on the defender – but the Red Devils are prepared to increase his wages at the club.

It is also claimed that United are ready to give the Spurs star a long-term contract to keep him at Old Trafford for a long term.

The Red Devils are expected to be in the market for a number of signings this summer transfer window as manager Jose Mourinho looks to assemble a team capable of winning the English title next term.
