Why Liverpool must rival Monaco for the ‘New Ronaldo’ in January

Gelson Martins

Atletico Madrid are set to let go of Portuguese striker Gelson Martins after working with him for just a year.

The striker joined the Spanish side from Benfica last summer but he hasn’t lived up to the hype he received from the media during the summer window.

The Reds were interested in his services prior to the start of this campaign but the player — who was tagged ‘New Ronaldo’ by Benfica chief — decided to join Diego Simeone’s men.

One year after the much talked about move, things haven’t gone as planned for the 23-year-old and he’s now set to leave the Spanish capital this month.

He has failed to displace Antoine Griezmann from the starting lineup, and Simeone didn’t really have much trust in his abilities as a centre-forward.

Spain’s media outlet Marca report that Martins is attracting many suitors, such as Monaco and Porto, but he’s yet to decide where his next destination will be.

Why Klopp should reignite interest in Gelson Martins

It is high time Klopp forgives the youngster and make another move for his signature. The player is a great player who has all it requires to become the next Ronaldo — as he’s being called— as long as he works with a manager who knows how to unleash his potentials.

With Klopp’s huge record of turning youngsters into world-class players, Martin will be a good buy for the Reds in the nearest future.

Klopp won’t need to spend much on his signature, so, there won’t be a huge loss for the Merseyside club should the player fail to perform at Anfield.
