Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira is interested in the transfer of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Belgian newspaper Het Belang Van Limburg, Vieira wants the Belgian international shot-stopper to team up with him at OGC Nice.

Patrick Vieira is currently the Nice manager and he has led the team to ninth spot on the French Ligue 1 table.

He’s ready to rescue Simon Mignolet from his Liverpool nightmare when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

The 29-year-old played second fiddle to Loris Karius last season in the Reds’ goalkeeping department and he has continued to endure the same role this season despite the exit of Karius.

The German shot-stopper is presently on a season-long loan at Turkish giants Besiktas.

He maintained his role of being the Reds no.2 goalkeeper after the arrival of Brazilian international star Alisson Becker from Italian Serie A outfit AS Roma during the summer’s transfer window.

He joined the Merseysiders for a then world record fee for a goalkeeper after Liverpool agreed on a fee of around £65m.

Mignolet wanted to leave in the summer but the club didn’t sanction a move.

His sole appearance this season came in the Carabao Cup third round defeat (1-2) at the hands of title rivals Chelsea.
