Premier League giants Chelsea are close to making a breakthrough in their pursuit of Lyon forward Nabil Fekir after a big development.

According to the publication from El Gol digital, new Blues boss, Maurizio Sarri put a call through to the 25-year-old to outline his plans for him.

Nabil Fekir is one of the most sought after forwards in world football with clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Liverpool all interested in a move for him ahead of the January transfer window.

The French international star came close to securing a big money move to the Premier League with the Reds.

Liverpool agreed to a €60m (£50m) transfer fee with his French Ligue 1 side before they made the decision to pull out of the deal.

The 2018 Champions League finalists didn’t go ahead with the transfer due to concerns over a previous knee problem.

Nabil Fekir is already a World Cup winner after he won the tournament with the French team in the summer in Russia.

The French team won the title via a 4-2 victory over surprise finalists Croatia in their final meeting in Moscow.

Nabil Fekir scored 23 goals in 39 appearances for his side in all competitions in the last campaign.
