For many Arsenal fans, the ongoing January transfer window is the perfect chance for Arsenal to sign in one or two top-class strikers to strengthen the team and increase their chances of ending up well this season.
Nevertheless, we shouldn’t ignore the truth that Arsenal presently have an impressive striker in the team in the person of Olivier Giroud.
In his last four matches, Giroud has scored four times and provided two assists, though we can also admit that the four games were not against top teams.
Irrespective of all, his fine record in the Champions League backs up the belief that he is a fine striker. In the past two and a half seasons, he has scored eight goals in 13 Champions League appearances- four of which he came in as a substitute.
If we should consider a top-rated striker like Karim Benzema of Real Madrid, we will have a new notion about Giroud. Karim has only scored seven goals in his last 13 Champions League matches.
Arsenal fans should therefore be excited that Giroud is close to signing a new Arsenal deal. The 30-year old is a top-class player in his own right.
The Frenchman told French TV, as reported and translated by Sky Sports:
“We’re on the verge of reaching an agreement for an extension
“It’s also a sign of confidence and I want to continue my adventure here in this Arsenal family, and I feel very good here.
“When I spoke with the manager, he always kept telling me that I’m an important player. I know what I’m capable of and it’s just a case of being patient, working hard in training and waiting for your hour to come.”
