Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda has revealed that Premier League giants Liverpool tried to sign Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio during this summer’s transfer window.
He disclosed that the Reds made an offer of around €180m (£160m) for Asensio this summer in a bid to prise him away from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Eduardo Inda told OK Diario about the Liverpool bid before adding that the Reds will try to sign him again at the end of this season.
Real Madrid were reluctant to let the Spanish international player leave the club in the wake of another big departure (Ronaldo).
Cristiano Ronaldo is the leading record goalscorer in Real Madrid’s history.
He achieved this feat during a nine-year spell until this summer when he left for Juventus for a club-record fee of around €100m.
Marcos Asensio signed for Real Madrid from fellow Spanish side Real Mallorca in 2014 and has gone on to become an important player for the European champions.
He has won one Spanish La Liga title, two Champions League titles and the 2017 Spanish Super Cup title since he broke into the first team two years ago.
Marco Asensio has failed to step up to the big shoes of Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid this season.
He has scored just two goals and provided a solitary assist in 13 league appearances.
