Bad news for Chelsea as Higuain wants a ‘cursed’ jersey — Report

The Blues should be happy with the fact that they have finally gotten someone whose goalscoring trait is never in doubt. They should be glad that Higuain will be moved to his best position so as to create many goalscoring opportunities this new signing.

But they must be concerned about the fact that he chooses to wear number 9 jersey whom many believe it’s a cursed number.

Coincidentally, every player that has put on the No.9 jersey at Stamford Bridge have failed to deliver and the Argentine has reportedly chosen to pick the number as favourite jersey number.

According to Sky Sports News on Wednesday, the Argentine striker — who is yet to be unveiled by the Blues— wants to take over from Morata as he chooses the Spaniard’s jersey number

Alvaro Morata had shambolic and unimpressive performances throughout his first 18 months at Stamford Bridge. Fernando Torres is another world-class player who flopped at Chelsea while wearing the No.9 jersey.

The Spaniard was doing fine with Liverpool before his £50m( the then club record fee) move to West London.

He was given the number 9 shirt and that was the beginning of his downfall. He couldn’t maintain his form and he was eventually sold out to Atletico Madrid after an unsuccessful spell with the team.

Mateja Kelman, Hernan Crespo and Steve Sidwell are examples of players who failed to perform for the Blues while wearing the ‘cursed’ jersey.

As much as it looks unreal and coincidental, the Blues must begin to lower their expectations for the Argentinian star should he stand in his decision to put on Number 9 jersey
