Barcelona star player Neymar was one of the players on Chelsea’s radar earlier this summer and the English club were heavily linked with a move for him.
Nevertheless, along the lines, the premier league champions pulled out of the race for his signature, and it has been revealed that the reason for that is due to PSG’s readiness to pay his €222 million (£197m) release clause.
Recently, there were speculations in Brazil that Neymar has already agreed a €30M-a-year deal with the French heavyweights and the player has even told his friends he will be moving to France.
The Daily Mail claims that the Ligue I club had previously faced competition from the English duo of Chelsea and Manchester United but both ended their interest in the Brazilian after they were aware that PSG are ready to meet his buyout clause.
Chelsea were in the market for a new leading striker after Italian manager Antonio Conte told Diego Costa he is free to leave the club this summer since he isn’t part of his plans at Stamford Bridge next season. However, the major player he was expecting to bring in as a replacement for Costa – Romelu Lukaku, was lost to Manchester United.
His attention was then turned to Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, and they have managed to agree a deal with the Champions League winners on Wednesday.
