Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted claims that Konstantinos Mavropanos is ready to put pen to paper for Arsenal to emerge as their first winter signing.
The 20-year-old Greek currently plays for PAS Giannina in his country, playing 20 matches for the senior team while he’s also played twice for Greece Under 21s.
Although, he doesn’t have so much experience, especially at the highest level, and so this would look like a possible signing for the future, with Arsene Wenger hoping to sign him and send him out on loan.
It’s thought that it will take about £2.2million for the Gunners to sign the youngster, with German side Werder Bremen believed as a possible destination for Mavropanos for the remainder of the campaign.
The defence is a department for worry for the Gunners, particularly considering that German Per Mertesacker will hang his boots this summer and the likes of France international Laurent Koscielny and Spaniard Nacho Monreal all ageing.
Youngsters like Calum Chambers and Holding are yet to convince Wenger and fans that they’re good enough to fill those roles in defence, with the former looking shaky in a recent match against Crystal Palace and Champions Chelsea.
