According to reports, Premier League Champions Chelsea are leading rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Juventus full-back Alex Sandro, with both sides having a similar issue going forward.
United boss Jose Mourinho still hasn’t successfully found a solution at left-back, with Ashley Young filling in pretty well and the likes of England international Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind all being featured there.
Getting a reliable player who is a natural left-back will be key to improving United as a squad, which would permit them to complement what Ecuadorian Antonio Valencia offers on the other side.
That makes United’s interest in Alex Sandro understandable, with The Sun stating that they’re interested in the Brazilian international, who was worth £80million this past summer transfer window, but trail Conte’s Chelsea in the race to sign him.
Sandro, 26, is thought to have told Italian Serie A side Juventus that he wants to go, and so a departure in the New Year is being touted with Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri undoubtedly prepared to feel his loss if he eventually leaves.
As for the Blues, Italian tactician Antonio Conte would welcome Sandro’s transfer given that he needs to reinforce in that area with Spaniard Marcos Alonso rarely not playing for a full 90 minutes so far this campaign.
